Be an encourager. Guide them to give thoughtful consideration to all the options. Openly discuss the pros and cons without directing. In most cases the results will be the best.

As long as everyone understands and accepts that the Reserves are more likely to see actual action overseas, ROTC is a great option. I had friends that used ROTC as an alternative to loans for college funding.
